The current requirements are kept as an option left to those manufacturers that have already agreed with their approval authority to implement a monitoring solution that differs from that specified in this proposal.

This proposal aligns the transitional provisions of Revision 6 of UN Regulation 49 and thus in document GRPE/2014/3 with the General Guidelines for UN Regulations (WP.29/1044/Rev.1). This change requires changes to Table 1 of Annex 3 to cover diesel and dual-fuel engines bearing the letter B.

The proposal also would allow for methods other than monitoring the reagent tank level or reagent flow in order to monitor reagent consumption in Annex 11.
