20 Apr Periodical Technical Inspections: Minutes of the 42nd (January 2026) session PTI-42-05 2026-04-20 CITA presented PTI-42-02 to link the PTI informal group's work to the approval of the EU Roadworthiness Package. FSD proposed work to introduce PTI provisions into UN Regulations under the 1958 Agreement. Japan, Russia, and FSD provided brief updates on the use of diagnostic devices to access to in-vehicle data. CITA updated the group on its views concerning PTI for ADS vehicles. CITA explained GRVA/2025/43, GRVA/2025/44, GRVA/2025/34, and GRVA-23-18/Rev.1 on Electromechanical Braking and Parking Lock Devices which will be considered by WP.29 in March.
12 May Periodical Technical Inspections: Agenda for the 43rd (May 2026) session PTI-43-01/Rev.3 2026-05-12 The meeting will address coordination of work, pollution emission control in PTI including PN measurement, NOx measurement, and Euro 7, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and Automated Driving Systems including PTI using diagnostic devices and inspections of automated vehicles, PTI provisions for brakes, lighting devices coordination and inspection, and 1997 Agreement updates.
8 May Provisions for periodical technical inspections of automated/autonomous vehicles (Russia) PTI-43-02 2026-05-08 Proposal to establish provisions for periodical technical inspections of automated/autonomous vehicles. The document, based on ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2019/34/Rev.2, addresses vehicle safety of in-use vehicles through maintenance and inspection measures. Inspection requirements should verify proper condition and functionality of vehicles and Automated Driving System according to UN Regulations. Provisions should include test procedures for safety-relevant functions, status and fault information, harmonized access protocols, functional test procedures with threshold limits, and result data specifications. Test methods shall be carried out by qualified persons without dismantling using standard equipment. Russia
12 May PTI: Ideas for way forward PTI-43-03 2026-05-12 The IWG on PTI Provisions for PTI works on whole-life compliance, testing ADAS/ADS at Periodic Technical Inspection, ePTI provisions, driverless vehicle inspection, and anti-tampering measures across 2025–2027. Provisions for PTI exist in at least 20 UN Regulations as of 8 April 2026, though PTI experts deem some insufficient and additional provisions may be needed. The proposed update procedure requires the IWG to generate a current provisions list, present needs to WP.29, develop proposals for the first 2–3 UN Regulations, defend each proposal in relevant GRs, and transmit outcomes to WP.29 for decision.
12 May Examples of need for updated inspection provisions PTI-43-04 2026-05-12 Single N<sub>1</sub> and N<sub>2</sub> vehicles with fluted brake drums for parking brakes cannot be inspected on roller and plate test benches or in test drives. Electric parking brake systems cannot be tested on roller and plate test benches or test drives, and wheels cannot be turned on lifts to inspect for damages or bearing wear. Some vehicles have hydraulic braking systems with brake fluid reservoirs not accessible without dismantling or special tools, requiring removal of covers, fasteners, and screws to access brake fluid for inspection. PTI inspection provisions require updating to address these vehicle design variations.
12 May Specific Aspects for the Inspection of LED Replacement Light Sources PTI-43-05 2026-05-12 LED replacement light sources without type approval are being sold online and offline and are unsafe for public roads; vehicles equipped with such products would fail PTI. LED replacement light sources with type approval are available either at national level or according to UN R37, and are safe and legal for public roads; vehicles equipped with approved LED replacement light sources shall NOT fail PTI. Approval marking on installed light sources is not accessible during PTI; verification may involve a sticker on headlamp housing, type approval documents, or packaging, with removal of the light source as a last resort to verify the approval marking.
9 Sep Periodical Technical Inspections: Minutes of the 43rd (May 2026) session () PTI-43-06 2026-09-09 The 43rd session of the IWG on PTI convened on 8 May 2026 in Brussels. The group reaffirmed the need to strengthen integration between type approval and in-use inspection per WP.29 Whole-Life Compliance framework (WP.29/2023/89). At least 20 UN Regulations contain incomplete, non-harmonised PTI provisions. The IWG agreed to add "Review of PTI provisions in UN Regulations (1958 Agreement)" to its Action Plan and submit a proposal to WP.29 requesting endorsement. Work on diagnostic tools in PTI and automated vehicles inspection continues. The group reviewed recent amendments to UN Regulations Nos. 13 and 13-H for new braking technologies and identified challenges regarding LED replacement light source inspection.

9 Sep RE3: Proposal of provisions for PTI scan tools (Japan and Russia) PTI-44-02 2026-09-09 Proposal to insert new clauses to section 8 of the Consolidated Resolution on the Construction of Vehicles (R.E.3) to add provisions 8.40.1. through 8.40.9. establishing requirements for:<ul><li>Periodic technical inspection of vehicles, including verification of proper condition and functionality through testing equipment, electronic vehicle interface, scan-tools and manual/visual inspection,</li><li>access to in-vehicle data without changing approved vehicle design or affecting software integrity, functionality of installed safety systems, and cyber security measures,</li><li>manufacturer provision of technical information for testing equipment, electronic vehicle interface, scan-tools and methods,</li><li>vehicle construction providing access to Diagnostic Trouble Code with regard to identify failure of vehicle, equipment and parts,</li><li>definition of failure,</li><li>requirement that Diagnostic Trouble Code be accessible by scan-tools compliant with international standards without manufacturer-specific, user-specific, or tool-specific restrictions,</li><li>cyber security measures not affected,</li><li>application limited to authorized test centers and workshops.</li></ul> Japan Russia

9 Sep UN Rule 4: Proposal for amendment (Russia) PTI-44-04 2026-09-09 Proposal to amend UN Rule No. 4 by replacing "Residual Energy Storage System (RESS)" with "Rechargeable Electrical Energy Storage System (REESS)" in paras. 2.10, 4.1, and 4.2, and amend the Russian version accordingly, and amend UN Regulation No. 100 rev. 2 to 4 by inserting "Electrical" in the term "Rechargeable Electrical Energy Storage System (REESS)" in paras. 2.5 and 2.29 of the English version, based on analysis in PTI-42-04 to eliminate inconsistencies and ensure unified approach across UN Regulations, Rules, and international standards.
