The Task Force reviewed the effectiveness of UN R151, R158, and R159 in reducing accidents and examined new or enhanced technologies and detection ranges. Regarding accident reduction effectiveness, the Task Force consensus was that it is too soon for quantitative review as vehicles equipped with compliant systems are still limited, though qualitative approaches surveying drivers and operators of compliant vehicles remain possible. On detection ranges, UN R151 currently allows a 900mm no detection zone to the side of the vehicle and UN R159 allows an 800mm no detection zone to the front. The Task Force recommended reviewing actual detection performance of vehicles and exploring whether the non-detection zones can be reduced using new technologies such as dual RADAR sensors.
