Proposal prepared by the WP.29 secretariat for draft amendments to Rule No. 2 on uniform provisions for periodical technical inspections of wheeled vehicles with regard their roadworthiness, based upon informal document WP.29-158-21 for review by GRE, GRSP, GRRF and GRSG.

Proposal to establish a road map for updating UN Rules 1 and 2 regarding periodic technical inspections of motor vehicles.

Proposal to apply the UN Rule on vehicle roadworthiness inspections to M1 (passenger cars), N1 (light commercial vehicles), O1 (small trailers), and O2 (light trailers)vehicle categories and to make certain editorial corrections.

WP.29 agreed to extend the scope of UN Rule Nos. 1 and 2 to cover light vehicles to render the Agreement more useful for emerging economies and for those countries not having a periodical technical inspection (PTI) system. CITA proposes an ‘upgrade’ based on corresponding EU directives.
