Proposal from the Netherlands to clarify the requirements for the mandatory manual override of the automatic/adaptive driving beam (ADB) function, revising document GRE/2012/23 from the last GRE session.

Submitted by the Netherlands to introduce a mandatory requirement for fitting an operating tell-tale on the daytime running lamp, in case the failure provision (for the light sources) according to paragraph 7.4.2.(b) of UN Regulation No. 87 is applied.

Text prepared by the Netherlands and the United Kingdom in response to the proposal (document GRE/2013/14) from France and Germany to implement provisions concerning direction indicator lamps with spatial variation of the intensity within UN Regulation No. 48.

Proposal to introduce the following into Regulation No. 48:
a) General definition of ‘tell-tale’, as also currently defined in Regulation No. 121;
b) Requirement that the specifications of the tell-tale (location, identification, symbol, illumination and colour) shall meet the relevant requirements of Regulation No. 121;
c) Provision that tell-tales shall always provide an optical signal, thus aligning with Regulation No. 121; however, it is suggested to allow additional signals (auditory or any equivalent signal);
d) New definition of a ‘failure tell-tale’ and stating the mandatory presence of such tell-tale for the daytime running lamp in certain cases;
e) Editorial changes clarifying the situation for a few other cases in Regulation No. 48, where apparently also a ‘failure tell-tale’ was meant.

Discussion document on tell-tale requirements in Regulation No. 48 versus Regulation No. 121 and consideration of establishing a task force to further discuss the issues involved. Pursuant to discussions at the previous two GRE sessions concerning the use of the term “failure tell-tale” in relation to daytime running lamps and adaptive front lighting systems (AFS) in UN R48 and the potential impact on UN R121 concerning the “location and identification of hand controls, tell-tales and indicators”, the Netherlands proposes the formation of a special task force to study the issues and propose draft amendments for lighting regulations as warranted.

Document GRE/2014/31 proposes to introduce requirements to avoid intentional non-approved (voltage) variation of the passing and driving beam, using halogen light sources and to harmonize it with the operating voltage requirements in Regulation No. 48. This correction seeks to improve the text by replacing the “about value” for the reference luminous flux with the exact value of 13.2V and to simplify the C.o.P. procedure.

Discussion document from the Netherlands and Italy to serve presenting potential new requirements for headlamp levelling, in particular regarding the vertical inclination in relation to the dipped-beam headlamp mounting height. The proposal is based on the original proposal of the Informal Working Group on Visibility, Glare and Levelling (VGL) (informal documents GRE-78-23-Rev.1, GRE-78-32, GRE-78-36) and discussions during the GRE 78th session.

Proposal for a supplement to the 06/07/08/09 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 48 and the 02 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 148 concerning manufacturer logos in side-marker lamps. The proposal amends paragraph 5.5.5. of UN R48 to clarify that no restrictions apply to logos in side-marker lamps, and amends paragraph 4.5.5. of UN R148 to add side-marker lamps to the list of lamps that shall not incorporate a logo. The justification references ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/2020/5/Rev.2.
