The establishment of ASEAN NCAP in December 2011 marked a new milestone of vehicle safety for the region in response to the United Nations’ Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.
ASEAN NCAP is a collaborative effort between the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Global NCAP, in which the latter funded the first phase of the project. In January 2013, ASEAN NCAP published the result of the first phase involving seven popular models in the region’s market. At this stage, two separate assessments conducted in the rating scheme which is Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) by star-rating and Child Occupant Protection (COP) by percentage-based rating.
