Detailed review of the proposed changes to UN R110.

Proposal to

1. Update the standards to note that all references to standards are always to the latest version unless stated otherwise.
2. Update Annex II with: Series of PRD/TPRD’s are not allowed
3. Update A.24 with the pressure relief device shall comply with the requirements given in annex 4A for the specific type
4. Update Annex 4A para 4 and para 7 with reference to ISO15500-13.

Proposal to add a new condition to paragraph 18.1.7.2. such that the number of filling cycles will be verified at the time of type approval in order to prevent exceeding the maximum number of filling cycles.

Proposal to correct the definition of “manual valve”, including deletion of the phrase “rigidly fixed to the cylinder or tank”.

Proposal to allow for the use of natural gas refrigeration systems to vehicles propelled by natural gas (CNG or LNG). This proposal addresses a new, environmentally friendly natural gas fuelled refrigeration system for trucks with refrigerated loads that already are propelled by natural gas. Currently paragraph 18.1.7.1 allows heating systems to be fitted on vehicles to heat the passenger compartment and/or the load area of a vehicle, however, the same provision omits cooling systems that are used on trucks for the carriage of loads requiring refrigeration.

Proposal to harmonize UN R110 with standard ISO 11439:2013 on high pressure cylinders for the on-board storage of natural gas as a fuel for automotive vehicles.
