Working draft of the proposed amendment to introduce provisions for the approval of camera-monitor systems as replacements for conventional rear-view mirrors pursuant to discussions during the 2nd CMS-II informal working group session.
At night, conventional mirrors reflect headlamps and similar light sources as points of light. This presentation reviews evaluations of camera-monitor systems in rendering point light sources compared against conventional exterior rear-view mirrors and methods for laboratory testing of their performance.
Overlays are rendered over the main image presented by a monitor to convey information to the driver. This presentation discusses questions and concerns over the use of overlays in rear vision camera-monitor systems.

Proposed changes to the working draft of the amendment (document CMS II-01-02/Rev.1) to introduce camera-monitor systems into the regulation on indirect vision devices (UN R46) pursuant to decisions taken during recent sessions of the Working Party on General Safety (GRSG).
Text prepared by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers OICA in coordination with the Informal Working Group Camera Monitor Systems (CMS II) to clarify the treatment of camera-monitor systems and similar indirect vision devices under Regulation No. 125. Presently, UN R125 exempts rear view mirrors from the requirements concerning obstructions to the driver’s forward field of vision. This proposal would clarify that rear vision camera-monitor systems benefit from the same exemptions.
Adaptation of ISO 13406-2 to camera-monitor systems for vehicle rear vision, proposing a visual inspection for bright and stuck pixels on the monitor screen.
