The expert from the United States of America informed GRSP of the outcome of the meeting of the Informal Working Group on Electric Vehicle Safety, UN GTR No. 20, held on February 2025 in California. Substantial progress was made on the primary topic on the agenda, thermal propagation, although some outstanding issues remained. The meeting also discussed fires in battery electric vehicles which did not originate in the batteries. The group compiled a list of outstanding issues beyond these two topics and might request a mandate extension to deal with them once they conclude the work on thermal propagation. He informed GRSP that the next meeting was tentatively scheduled for late August or early September. The expert from Canada briefly summarized the parts of UN GTR No. 20 that will be affected by the amendments being prepared.
