13. (a) Vehicle Automation

36. The Chair of the Task Force on Autonomous Vehicle Signalling Requirements (TF AVSR) reported on their activities (GRE-92-23) and presented proposals for amendments to the 09 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 48 to introduce automated driving systems (ADS) (GRE-92-12). The expert from China tabled a modification to the proposals (GRE-92-34). GRE noted that a final working document would be presented to the next session. Depending on the progress of other Working Parties (GRs), the proposal could be submitted to the June 2026 session of WP.29.

37. The expert from SAE briefed GRE on the ongoing review of standard SAE J3134 “Automated Driving System Marker Lamp” (ADS ML) (GRE-92-07). The expert from Japan reported on the results of a drivers’ opinion survey on the need for ADS ML (GRE-92-27). Against this background, the Chair encouraged TF AVSR to proceed with drafting a stand-alone UN Regulation on ADS ML, covering their installation as well.
