90. The GRVA Chair, in collaboration with ESCAP, organized a capacity-building session during Road Safety Week in Bangkok to familiarize the participants with UNECE’s activities, particularly the WP.29 framework and its three vehicle agreements and to facilitate the organization of the Road Safety Week for budgetary and liquidity shortage related reasons. The representative of Japan, Vice-Chair of GRVA, explained the activities and importance of 1958 Agreement. The representative of Canada provided insights into the road safety situation in their country and the importance of the 1998 Agreement, to which they are signatory, while still benefiting from and contributing to the deliverables under the 1958 Agreement. Experts from China, Japan, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom made interventions from the floor. Following this, ESCAP presented their road safety activities in the region and their project on automated vehicles.
