25 Mar Safer and Cleaner Vehicles: Report of the 20th (March 2026) session SCUNV-20 2026-03-25 The IWG on SCUNV held its twentieth meeting on 5 March 2026 with participants from eleven countries and multiple organizations. The group focused on Draft Resolution SCUNV-20-02, specifically Chapter 9 on used vehicle emissions standards. The group confirmed Euro 4 as the minimum emissions requirement and agreed that both OBD and tailpipe testing are acceptable verification methods. Optional guidance for Euro 5/6 vehicles will be included without changing the minimum requirement. References to pre-1980 vehicles will be removed. CITA will submit revised Chapter 9 wording by 9 March 2026 for WP.29 presentation on 11 March 2026. The document submission deadline for the June 2026 WP.29 session is 31 March 2026.

25 Mar Draft Resolution on Inspection Criteria for Used Vehicles SCUNV-21-02 2026-03-25 The draft resolution establishes minimum inspection criteria for used vehicles to ensure they meet safety and environmental standards before importation. The document provides performance-based, technology-neutral requirements applicable under UN vehicle agreements. Inspection covers vehicle identification, braking systems, steering, visibility, lighting, axles, suspension, chassis, safety equipment, environmental emissions, and additional tests for passenger vehicles and electric/hybrid vehicles. Annex 1 specifies inspection methods and rejection criteria; Annex 2 provides a certificate template for communicating inspection results to importers.
