Proposal for Supplement 7 to Regulation No. 85
Document GRPE-70-02
4 December 2014

The purpose of this proposal is to adjust the engine power-measurement calculation for supercharged and turbocharged engines fitted with a system that compensates for ambient conditions such as temperature and altitude. The proposed change would eliminate redundant correction factors that result in inaccurate results for these engine configurations.

34. The expert from OICA presented ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRPE/2015/12 proposing amendments to UN Regulation No. 85 to avoid a duplicated correction of the measured engine power in case of self-correcting turbochargers.

35. GRPE adopted ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRPE/2015/12 and requested the secretariat to submit it to WP.29 and AC.1 for consideration and vote at their November 2015 sessions as draft Supplement 7 to the original version of UN Regulation No. 85.

24. The expert introduced GRPE-70-02 proposing amendments to Regulation No. 85 avoiding a duplicated correction of the measured engine power from supercharged and turbocharged engines, fitted with a system, which allows compensation for ambient conditions such as temperature and altitude. He added that this proposal was based on the corresponding amendment in Annex XX added to Regulation (EU) No. 136/2014.

25. The secretariat presented GRPE-70-03 introducing minor amendments to Regulation No. 85.

26. GRPE agreed with both proposals and requested the secretariat to distribute both proposals combined, with an official symbol, at its June 2015 session.
