23. The experts from Germany introduced document GRSG-118-08, the analysis of dooring accidents and a proposal for a corresponding driver assistance system. He introduced German national statistics on accidents related to bicyclists crashing into open doors of parked vehicles, including the number of victims, description of accident types (left and right vehicle door and side), daylight conditions of their occurrence, bicycle velocities and factors impacting the outcome of crashes (braking distance, thinking distance and stopping distance). He presented a proposal for a potential future driver assistance system that would address such types of crashes and invited GRSG experts to provide dooring accident data from countries experiences. Upon a technical discussion concerning the subject matter, GRSG supported the request for information on other countries experiences and agreed to continue discussions on this topic at future sessions.
47. During the consultations, the experts reviewed the proposal (GRVA-22-16) tabled by the expert from China on provisions for Door Opening Warning systems. The experts recalled similar discussions at GRSG noting the lack of maturity of the technology. The expert from China clarified that, since this initial discussion seven years ago, the situation had changed with regards to maturity and experience as the Chinese market had a penetration rate of ten per cent with regards to this technology.
48. GRVA noted previous discussions at GRSG (GRSG-118-08) on this matter and recommended to continue the discussion at GRSG.
49. As discussed during the consultations, GRVA:
- endorsed a progress report (GRVA-22-27) of the TF on Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (ADAS);
- adopted ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRVA/2025/29 (amended by GRVA-22-17) proposing a standalone guidance document on data exchange via DETA in accordance with paragraph 7.2.2.2. of UN Regulation No. 171 on Driver-Control Assistance Systems (DCAS);
- adopted ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRVA/2025/30 (amended by GRVA-22-18) on the same topic (see item (b) above) as draft supplement to the original version and the 01 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 171 (DCAS) and requested the secretariat to submit them to WP.29 and AC.1 for consideration and vote in November 2025;
- adopted ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRVA/2025/31 proposing a supplement to the original version of UN Regulation No. 171 (DCAS), removing references to system-initiated manoeuvres from the original version and requested submitted them to WP.29 and AC.1 for consideration and vote in November 2025.
