UN Regulation No. 33 aims to reduce the risk of occupant injury due to deformation of the passenger compartment of passenger car (M1 category) in the event of a head-on collision. The test procedure simulates a 30 mph head-on collision with a rigid barrier in order to assess the behavior of the passenger compartment. Alternative methods are permitted provided equivalence with the prescribed test procedure can be demonstrated.
A vehicle approved under UN Regulation No. 94 is deemed to be compliant with this regulation.
