Proposal for the 03 series of amendments to Regulation No. 34

Proposal to amend the requirements for fire prevention under certain conditions in the event of a rear collision. In particular, the amendment changes the impact speed range in the collision test and enables the inclusion of this regulation in the proposed international whole vehicle type approval system.
Proposal for Supplement 1 to the 03 series of amendments to Regulation No. 34

Proposal to correct an oversight by aligning the “alternative procedures” provisions of the regulation with the previously adopted amendment of the regulation that raised the rear-impact speed to between 48 and 52 km/h (03 series of amendments).
This proposal (WP.29/2016/8) was adopted by the World Forum. Thirty-two Contracting Parties out of the 40 applying UN R34 were present for the vote by AC.1. Thirty-two voted in favor with zero against and zero abstaining.

Proposal to clarify the test requirements in alignment with the French text of the regulation by amending paragraph 5.10 to read “Tanks shall be installed in such a way as to be protected from the consequences of a collision to the front or the rear of the vehicle. There shall be no protruding parts, sharp edges, etc. near the tank.” The proposal aims to clarify the inspection of potentially protruding parts around the tanks in order to ensure their integrity in the event of a collision.

UN R34: Proposal for a Supplement 1 to the 04 series of amendments

Proposal from the GRSG task force on Automated Vehicles Regulatory Screening to exempt vehicles without manual driving controls from provisions of UN R34 applicable only to vehicles with manual driving controls, to introduce definitions for “ADS feature of type 1” and “ADS feature of type 2”, to clarify the provisions for vehicles in case of separate driver compartment, and to clarify that the loading area shall be considered as luggage compartment for vehicles of category N.
