Proposal to establish an informal expert group with a mandate for the exchange of information and experiences concerning regulations, policy measures, and standardization efforts related to the chemical compounds used in vehicle interiors and the health of vehicle occupants. If warranted, the group would develop recommendations/guidelines for inclusion as a new annex to the Consolidated Resolution on the Construction of Vehicles (RE3) and the 1998 Agreement’s Special Resolution No. 1 (SR1) or as a combined Mutual Resolution covering both agreements.

Presentation on Korean steps to address concerns over emissions of volatile organic compounds including formaldehyde, toluene, ethylbenzene, styrene, benzene, and xylene emanating from materials used in vehicle interior components such as dashboards, carpeting, and seats.

Background information gathered in Korea to support the proposal for a new regulation to protect vehicle users with regard to harmful airborne chemical compounds originating from the materials used in vehicle interiors.
