The expert from Germany tabled a proposal to clarify that only light-signalling devices may incorporate an illuminated manufacturer logo (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/2024/13 and GRE-91-24), meaning that such logos would be prohibited for road illumination devices and retro-reflectors. GRE experts generally supported the proposal and suggested modifications to the text. The expert from OICA hold the view that the prohibition could lead to problems with existing lamps and, thus, should be introduced by a new series of amendments with transitional provisions.
13. Following an in-depth discussion, GRE realized that fine tuning of the text would require more time and agreed to continue consideration at the next session. Meanwhile, GRE urged type approval authorities to refrain from granting type approvals to road illumination devices and retro-reflectors with illuminated manufacturer logos.
