Proposal from the GRSG task force on Automated Vehicles Regulation Screening to enable application of UN R151 to ADS vehicles, including the exemption of vehicle subcategories X and Y from the requirements, and to remove the references to Unique Identifier markings.

Proposal to amend UN R157 for Automated Driving Systems in vehicles of categories X and Y:

• Insert new paragraphs 0.8. to 0.8.2. introducing Supplement 5 to address vehicles of categories X and Y equipped with an Automated Driving System
• Amend para. 1.1. to specify applicability to vehicles of categories N₂, N₃, M₂ and M₃
• Insert new para. 1.3. excluding vehicles of category Y and vehicles of category X without a manual mode intended to be operated on-board the vehicle
• Amend para. 2.5. to define “Ocular reference point”
• Insert new para. 2.20. to define “Safety Concept”
• Amend para. 4.5. regarding affixing of approval marks and its footnote 2
• Amend para. 5.1. to provide for automatic deactivation of BSIS in specified situations and compliance with UN Regulation No. [XXX] for vehicles equipped with an ADS
• Insert new para. 5.2.3. permitting alternative requirements for vehicles of category X with manual mode not using a driver’s seat
• Amend Annex 2 to correct the heading and modify paragraph references
• Amend Annex 4, Appendix, Table 1, footnote 1
