Proposal to introduce minimum performance standards for replacement brake discs and drums for vehicles of categories M, N and O.

Proposal from the Forum secretariat to correct Revision 3 of the Regulation, aligning the English and French texts to the Russian version.

Proposal to improve the definition of “identical” parts as applied to replacement brake discs and drums and to introduce an “identical” part definition for brake linings. This proposal simplifies the approval process and was adopted by the Working Party on Brakes and Running Gear (GRRF) at its 67th session as amended by Annex IV of the session report and based on a proposal by OICA, CLEPA and FEMFM (document GRRF/2014/9 ).

Proposal to introduce provisions for the approval of replacement brake discs for L-category (motorcycle and related) vehicles, to remove tables specifying general values for replacement discs and drums that are identical to the original, change the maximum permitted thickness variation of discs for medium and heavy vehicles from 0.030 mm to 0.040 mm, and clarify the text in order to avoid additional administrative and financial costs to the applicant due to misinterpretation of the intent of the text.

Proposal to expand the scope of UN R90 to include requirements for the approval of replacement brake lining assemblies for L-category vehicles.

Proposal to align approval numbers and markings under UN R90 with Schedule 4 of Revision 3 to the 1958 Agreement. Please note that WP.29 adopted document WP.29/2019/47 as Supplement 5 to the 02 series of amendments to UN R90 during its June 2019 session. Therefore, this proposal (if adopted) would be Supplement 6.

Proposal from GRVA to replace the specification of the type and size of brake caliper and brake disc for brake lining CoP assessment with specifications for a pad area and thickness of the original approval. The original specification corresponds to obsolete caliper and rotor configurations no longer in widespread use.

Proposal to allow discs with a different geometry to be included in the same group as long as the disc itself is subject to lower thermal and mechanical stresses than the reference disc in order to improve testing efficiency.

Proposal to clarify the packaging and labelling requirements for some types of brake lining assemblies, which could be fitted on various different applications and to allow the option of using a QR code (or another type of digital data carrier) to replace some information printed on or included in the packaging.

Proposal from GRVA to correct an error in para. 2.3. Weight reduction solutions for brake discs must yield a higher (not lower) ratio between vehicle kinetic energy and mass of the disc braking surface than the reference disc.

Proposal to clarify the packaging and labelling requirements for some types of brake lining assemblies, which could be fitted for various different applications and to allow the option of using a QR code (or another type of digital data carrier) to replace some information printed on or included in the packaging.

Pursuant to changing the application of the Unique Identifier (UI) under the 1958 Agreement, this proposal deletes the prohibition on use of the UI for replacement brake components under UN R90. Originally, the UI was applied by default to all UN Regulations which therefore required certain regulations to prohibit its use. Pursuant to the adopted proposal WP.29/2025/17, each regulation grants permission to use the UI so the provision prohibiting use under UN R90 is no longer needed.
