16 Aug 2017 Proposal for amendment 1 to the original version of the Consolidated Resolution on the common specification of light source categories (GTB) GRE/2017/16 2017-08-16 Proposal to introduce a new light emitting diode (LED) forward lighting light source category L1/6. The proposal is part of a package which also includes amendments to Regulation No. 128. 2. GTB proposes one category L1/6 with “maximum test temperature” 65 °C. The definition of the maximum test temperature is necessary to ensure interchangeability between approved light sources from different manufacturers. A separate (unique) light source category is specified for every "maximum test temperature". The choice of installation of a light source with a given maximum test temperature is based on the application in the vehicle and determined by due diligence of the car maker and set maker, in the same way as is now the case with LED modules. 15 Aug 2018 UN R128: Proposal for Supplement [8] (GTB) GRE/2018/49 2018-08-15 The current text of UN R128, Annex 4, paragraph 1.2. allows only for a decrease of luminous flux from 1 minute to 30 minutes. This has proven to be unnecessarily design restrictive as the drive electronics in a stabilized light source can lead to a slight increase in the luminous flux from 1 minute to 30 minutes. Therefore, this proposal would allow a limited increase of luminous flux from 1 minute to 30 minutes within the given minimum and maximum requirements. This proposal relates to document GRE/2018/48 retaining requirements for LR4 category light sources which would otherwise have been impacted by the present proposal. GTB

22 Jan 2017 Issues on UN Regulations on light sources in Annex 4 of UN Regulation No. 0 (IWVTA) (GTB) SLR-14-05 2017-01-22 The regulation of lighting includes individual regulations for specific lighting devices (headlamps, direction indicators, etc.), for light source (filament, gas, LED), and for installation (UN R48). The proposed UN R0 on the type approval of whole vehicles requires submission of approval certificates for components and systems to be included within the whole vehicle approval. Vehicle manufacturers work directly with UN R48 approvals, but lamp and device approvals are generally handled by lighting suppliers. UN R48 includes provisions for listing approvals of lighting units, but not for approvals of light sources (presently UN R37, R99, and R128). In order to avoid excessive administrative burdens, GTB proposes that the regulations covering light units include provisions to confirm their approval under the applicable light source regulations such that UN R48 approvals would represent approval of the vehicle lighting systems under both device regulations and light-source regulations.
