Draft report of the 33rd meeting of the GRE Taskforce on Autonomous Vehicle Signalling Requirements held on 7 September 2026. The taskforce discussed ADS marker lamps, including a draft proposal for a hybrid regulation, research results from Korea on V2H communication systems, and a presentation by Japan. Key discussion topics included the allowance for substitution of front position lamps and DRLs by ADS marker lamps, lateral ADS marker lamp signalization for trucks, approval marking labels, and visibility angles for side ADS marker lamps. The taskforce agreed to conduct editorial work on the proposal on 16 September and hold a finalizing meeting on 22 September to prepare an informal document for GRE-95 in October.
HWT-PTI held meetings on 8 July, 13 August, and 19 August, with further meetings planned for 28 September, 3 November, and 24 November 2026. Work focuses on three items: revised wording for neutral state of passing beam under discussion, cut-off and kink point commenting on UN R149 Annex 5 and 6, and provision for PTI awaiting outcomes of earlier work items.
Agenda for a PMP webex meeting on 29 September 2026 to review meeting minutes, overview amendments to GTR 24 and UN R179 on brakes across multiple task forces covering layout and testing topics, vehicles limited speed, brake replacement parts, and electromechanical brakes, discuss GTR and UN R heavy-duty brakes, and address any other business.
The Informal Working Group on Prioritization held its first meeting on 25 September 2026. The group discussed the context and background of its establishment under WP.29 Vice-Chair Takashi Naono, including the inception report and guidance from WP.29 to continue work with participation of NGOs and OICA as technical secretary. The group reviewed draft terms of reference distinguishing final objectives from proposed means to achieve them, including common understanding of prioritization, high-level review of current GRs activities and resource needs, and possible approaches to define prioritization. Discussions addressed whether the IWG should be under AC.2 or WP.29 responsibility, with consensus emerging toward WP.29. The group reviewed a prioritization methodology document from UK proposing a consolidated numbered list of all GR priorities for individual ranking by WP.29 members. The group established actions including provision of comments on draft terms of reference no later than one week prior to the next meeting, with terms of reference to be implemented no later than November 2028.
Meeting minutes covering Y-category regulatory framework for N₁ vehicles, a revised version of which was written during the meeting. OICA presented a proposal for UN R127 on Y-category pedestrian protection, which was accepted; measurement data collection according to the proposal is the next step. EC presented a draft on UN R42, with NL proposing additions regarding automated driving systems exemptions and introduction text; EC to update the draft accordingly. UN R134 Y-category exclusion was listed with no discussion recorded.
Agenda for the 29th meeting of the GRSP Task Force on Advanced Vehicle Regulatory Support, scheduled for 5 October 2026. The meeting will address Y-category regulatory framework developments for N1 vehicles, Y-category pedestrian protection under UN R127, UN R42 matters from GRSP-79, Y-category exclusion in UN R134, and other business.
Change request to amend para. 4.1.6.2. to add a condition that an ADSF-1 shall execute a fallback to an MRC if there is insufficient time available for transition or if it has not been possible to complete a system-initiated deactivation procedure. The revision ensures that in situations where an ADSF-1 does not have time to safely transition to the fallback user, it should fallback to an MRC to avoid having a fallback user that is unprepared and unable to safely take back control.
