Proposal to exempt rear edges of fenders and rear edges of A pillars under certain conditions from the requirement that sheet metal edges be folded back or fitted with a shield.
This proposal (WP.29/2020/15) was adopted by the World Forum. Thirty-six Contracting Parties out of the 48 applying UN R26 were present for the vote by AC.1. Thirty-six voted in favor with zero against and zero abstaining.
Proposal to introduce a generic drawing to improve interpretation of the regulation, especially with regard to contactable parts (sphere protocol). The proposal clarifies which requirements apply to which part of the windscreen wiper and thus clarifies whether parts may be “exempted”. Given the implications for approvals, the proposal is presented as a new series of amendments with transitional provisions starting from September 2022.

Proposal from the GRSG task force on Automated Vehicles Regulatory Screening to exempt vehicles without manual driving controls from provisions of UN R26 applicable only to vehicles with manual driving controls, introduce definitions for “ADS feature of type 1” and “ADS feature of type 2”, and define the vertical transversal plane for vehicles without a driver.
