| UN R125: Proposal for a Supplement 1 to the 03 series of amendments |
| Reference Number: GRSG-131-33 |
|
Proposal for Supplement 1 to the 03 Series of Amendments to UN R125 (Forward Field of Vision), amending and superseding ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2026/8. The proposal introduces provisions for vehicles of categories X and Y, and vehicles equipped with an Automated Driving System (ADS). Vehicles of category Y without a driver are exempt from the Regulation. For vehicles of category X with manual driving modes, different provisions apply depending on operation method: remote-control operation is exempt; seated operation follows general provisions; and on-board operation not using a driver’s seat may use alternative requirements demonstrating equivalent safety levels. |

Proposal to resolve a longstanding inconsistency in UN R125 between the lower datum point (§5.1.1.3, set at 5°) and the obstruction requirement (§5.1.3, set at 4°), by aligning the lower datum point to 4° while retaining upper and lateral aspects of §5.1.1. unchanged. The 5° datum point has never been used for any technical requirements beyond serving as a reference point, while the 4° obstruction requirement has prior precedent. As this is a vehicle rather than component requirement, the datum point is also proposed for deletion from UN R43, retaining it solely in UN R125. |
