6. (b) UN Regulation No. 79 (Steering equipment)

41. GRVA reviewed an amendment proposal (GRVA-23-19), tabled by the representative of OICA, to the remote-control parking provisions in UN Regulation No. 79, aimed at allowing the driver to slow down the manoeuvre or to stop the vehicle earlier than intended by the system. GRVA adopted it.

42. GRVA requested the secretariat to transmit the proposal, as reproduced in Annex III, as draft supplements to the 03 and 04 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 79 and to be incorporated in the draft 05 series of amendment to UN Regulation No 79, for consideration and vote by WP.29 and AC.1 at their March 2025 sessions.

43. The representative of OICA proposed (GRVA-23-20) to introduce transitional provisions for the newly adopted provisions applicable to full power steering systems (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRVA/2025/48/Rev.1 as amended by GRVA-23-45). The representative of Japan acknowledged that the transitional provisions were necessary and supported the proposal.

44. GRVA adopted the proposal (see Annex VII) and requested the secretariat to transmit it as part of the draft supplements to the 03 and 04 series of amendments and to be incorporated in the draft 05 series of amendments, for consideration and vote by WP.29 and AC.1 at their March 2025 sessions.

45. The representative of France proposed to clarify the testing provisions of the Risk Mitigation Function (GRVA-23-05) in UN Regulation No. 79, aimed to support market surveillance activities. GRVA agreed to resume consideration of this proposal at the next session and requested the secretariat to distribute it with an official symbol.

46. The representative of Korea proposed to introduce a pre-conditioning procedure for the steering control effort test with a failure in UN Regulation No. 79 (GRVA-23-12). Some delegations expressed interest in reviewing the issue and producing an informal document for review at the next session.
