3. (d) UN Regulation on Automated Lane Keeping System

GRVA may wish to be informed on WP29 endorsement of the proposal by the Administrative Committee for the Coordination of Work (AC.2) that activities related to the Automated Lane Keeping System (ALKS) extension would be addressed by a group of interested experts that would report to GRVA. AC.2 ruled that this work should not diverge from the outcome of the activities at the IWGs on FRAV and VMAD, and that, if these two groups needed more time than the task force, then the outcome of these two groups would be considered to amend the ALKS regulation, if needed.

GRVA may wish to be informed on the discussion at AC.2 at its virtual meeting on 23 October 2020 on the simplification of ACSF provisions in UN Regulation No. 79 and the discussion on the technical provisions for so called “hands off” systems. AC.2 discussed the possibility to take relevant provisions out of UN Regulation No.79 and to develop a UN Regulation on Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (ADAS). AC.2 invited GRVA to further discuss and seek consensus, especially taking into account Human Machine Interface (HMI) related provisions and overreliance, as a safety concern.

GRVA agreed to resume consideration of ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRVA/2020/16 inserting provisions for the type approval of emergency assistance systems (e.g. in case of driver’s health problem).

GRVA-07-22 | UN R79: Proposal for amendments - Emergency assist / RMF This document proposes a new 04 series of amendments to Regulation 79 with regard to a system that aims at bringing the vehicle to a safe stop in case of driver unavailability, defining a "risk mitigation function".
GRVA/2020/16 | UN R79: Proposal for a Supplement to the 03 series of amendments Proposal to permit a function to cope with temporary driver inability to control the vehicle (e.g. caused by a health problem). The proposed emergency steering function of type <notextile>(c)</notextile> would warn and possibly revive the driver while automatically performing emergency lane change(s) with the aim to bring the vehicle to a standstill in an area with a low risk of collision (“target stop area” e.g. hard shoulder).

7. UN Regulation No. 90

GRVA may wish to review a proposal related to UN Regulation No. 90, tabled by the expert from CLEPA.

GRVA-07-52 | UN R90: Proposal for supplements to the 01 and 02 series of amendments Proposal to replace the specification of the type and size of brake caliper and brake disc for brake lining CoP assessment with specifications for a pad area and thickness of the original approval. The original specification corresponds to obsolete caliper and rotor configurations no longer in widespread use.
8. Revision 3 of the 1958 Agreement
8. (a) Implementation of relevant provisions in Revision 3 to the 1958 Agreement

GRVA may wish to discuss actions related to the implementation of new provisions contained in Revision 3 to the 1958 Agreement on:

  • “Unique Identifier”: GRVA may wish to specify whether some regulations under its remit shall explicitly ban the use of the “Unique Identifier” as specified in Revision 3 to the 1958 Agreement.
  • Transitional provisions in UN Regulations: GRVA may wish to define an action plan to align the transitional provisions in UN Regulations in line with the provisions of the 1958 Agreement e.g. the possibility to grant type approval according to previous versions of UN Regulations.
  • Article 12.6 and Schedule 7: GRVA may wish to note the purpose of Article 12.6 and Schedule 7 with regard to the approval of innovations.
  • Conformity of Production provisions: GRVA may wish to define an action plan to align the Conformity of Production (CoP) provisions in UN Regulations and amend references on CoP in UN Regulations.

8. (b) International Whole Vehicle Type Approval

GRVA may wish to receive a status report on the activities of the IWG on International Whole Vehicle Type Approval (IWVTA) and the IWG on Database for the Exchange of Type Approval documentation (DETA), if any.
