Terms of reference and rules of procedure for the IWG on ADS, established to work according to the strategic vision framework and draft regulatory text on ADS for use under the 1958 and 1998 Agreements. The IWG shall draft a Global Technical Regulation on ADS and a UN Regulation on ADS, combining regulatory text with administrative provisions and annexes from GRVA workshops, and deliver draft proposals for the January 2026 session of GRVA. The IWG reports to GRVA, is open to all WP.29 participants, and is managed by six Co-Chairs from different regions.

Wrap-up of the 1st ADS IWG session held April 22, 2024. The agenda was approved. Co-chairs explained goals and objectives referring to WP.29/2024/1/Rev.1 and ADS-01-05. Big sections General requirements, Performance requirements/Test specifications, and Assessment/Test procedures are to be broken down into manageable pieces assigned to OPI accordingly. Sections Purpose, Scope, and Definitions are assigned to Technical Secretary/AAPC. ADS IWG members are requested to become OPI for sections Recommendations and Existing regulations, directives. Action items: finalize ADS GTR/UNR Content table and send to members, volunteers undertake OPI, consider coordination with related IWGs, fix future meeting dates and venues.

The agenda for the 3rd ADS informal working group session covers 9–12 July 2024 in Brussels. Day 1 addresses adoption of the agenda and report, status of work, Phase 1 outcomes including scope, safety management system, safety assessment, and ADS performance of the DDT. Day 2 continues with ADS performance of the DDT, ADS interaction with users, testing credibility assessment, and in-service monitoring and reporting. Day 3 discusses existing regulations, directives, and international voluntary standards, unfinished business, and Phase 2 planning for assessment and test methods and other content. Day 4 covers reflections on ADS UNR/GTR and GRVA workshops, Phase 3 planning, and next meetings scheduled for October in London and December in Seoul.
