Proposal applies to Supplements 3 to the 04 series of amendments. Proposal to clarify the scope of data from tests to the windscreen that must be provided for the purpose of type approval.
22. GRSP discussed the issue of atypical windscreen fracture based on ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSP/2025/2 and informal documents GRSP-77-38, GRSP-77-52 and GRSP-77-53. The expert from CLEPA argued that it was always possible that some windscreens would be tougher, resulting in anomalies or outliers and that the pre-test process which had been originally devised was therefore not viable. GRSP supported the approach taken in informal document GRSP-77-38, to collect data through the Database for the Exchange of Type Approval documentation (DETA). Prompted by a question from the expert from France, the expert from the Kingdom of the Netherlands preliminarily suggested a 5-year period of data collection. He informed GRSP that he would bring a working document to the next session taking into account the feedback received.
28. The expert from the Kingdom of the Netherlands introduced working documents ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSP/2025/28 and GRSP/2025/29 with proposals addressing the issue of atypical windscreen fracture. The experts from Italy and Sweden supported the proposals and indicated that the square brackets could be removed. On a question from the expert from Japan regarding the potential need to create a task force, the expert from the Kingdom of the Netherlands suggested that this would be appropriate in two or three years, once enough data had been collected. GRSP adopted ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSP/2025/28 and GRSP/2025/29 (removing the square brackets) and requested the secretariat to submit them as proposals for supplement 4 to the 03 series of amendments and supplement 3 to the 04 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 127 to the June 2026 sessions of WP.29 and AC.1.
