GRVA | Session 14 | 26-30 Sep 2022

102. The expert from CLCCR introduced GRVA-14-13, aimed at allowing the type approval of braking systems for trailers equipped with an electric regenerative braking system and/or a propulsion system in its axle. These new axles in trailers have the potential to convert the kinetic energy of an axle to supply electric systems (e.g. cooling units for reefer) as well as to support the motor vehicle (e.g. the tractor) during start-stop manoeuvres, during accelerating/braking. This leads to lower fuel consumption of the motor vehicle respectively cooling units (ergo lower CO2 emissions). The expert from CLEPA supported the proposal. The expert from OICA welcomed the innovation proposed by CLCCR, but could not support the amendment proposal, as drafted.

103. GRVA invited industry to work together on this item and requested the secretariat to distribute GRVA-14-13 with an official symbol at the next GRVA session.

GRVA | Session 16 | 22-26 May 2023

110. GRVA resumed discussions on the document tabled by CLCCR at the last session, jointly developed together with CLEPA and OICA (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRVA/2023/3). The expert from CLEPA informed GRVA that further discussions on definitions were needed, e.g. for threshold values and requirements. He requested to keep the document on the agenda until the next GRVA session as discussions on solutions and impacts on motor vehicles were still ongoing. GRVA agreed to this request.

GRVA | Session 15 | 23-27 Jan 2023

116. The expert from CLCCR recalled the purpose of ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRVA/2023/3. He requested (GRVA-15-33), following discussions with OICA, to postpone the consideration of this topic to the next session of GRVA. GRVA gave its consent.

117. The expert from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland introduced GRVA-15-08, with a proposal to amend Annex 18 of UN Regulation No. 13, aimed to align where appropriate the text in UN Regulation No. 13 with that of Annex 6 to UN Regulation No. 79 (Steering Systems) and to improve consistency in the interpretation of the requirements of that annex. Following discussions, GRVA requested the secretariat to distribute the document with an official symbol at its May 2023 session.
