26. The Chair of GRE reported on the results of the sixty-fifth session of GRE (for details see the report of the session (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/65) available at www.unece.org/trans/main/wp29/wp29wgs/wp29gre/grerep.html.
27. Regarding the 1998 Agreement, he reported that although most lamps installed on today’s motor vehicles satisfy all regulations in force around the world, no Contracting Party had proposed development of a gtr in the area of lighting and light-signalling.
28. He informed WP.29 that GRE had agreed on a new series of amendments requiring mandatory installation of automatic headlamp levelling systems on all M and N vehicles. GRE had also agreed on a 90 month transitional provisions allowing for further research and possible amendment of the related requirements. GRE sought WP.29’s advice on the numbering of this series of amendments if subsequent series of amendments with shorter transitional period would be adopted.
29. WP.29 agreed that the provisions for mandatory fitting of automatic levelling of headlamps on category M and N vehicles should be adopted as a supplement and could be transformed into a new series of amendments later on.
30. Finally, the Chair of GRE reported that, in view of the progress made by the informal group on DETA, GRE had requested GTB to renew its work on simplifying marking of lighting and light-signalling devices. GRE had noted that the new marking system would work only if all Contracting Parties to the 1958 Agreement would agree and use the database system developed by DETA informal group.
32. The World Forum recalled the oral report of the Chair of GRE, given during the 154th session (ECE/TRANS)WP.29/2011/1091, paras. 26–30) and approved the report.
