Proposal from the informal working group on Gaseous Fuelled Vehicles (GFV) to simplify the communication model of approval under UN Regulation No. 115.
4. GFV 40-02 has been proposed and discussed at the last GFV. The proposed amendment is aimed at simplifying the communication model of approval for LPG vehicles. As regards vehicle types for which the retrofit system is qualified (i.e. other than parent vehicles), the current model requires the communication of a calculated CO2 factor as well as of the specific CO2 emissions in the gas mode.
The proposal received approval from the GFV to move forward to the full GRPE meeting in June 2015.
36. The Chair of the IWG on GFV introduced GRPE-71-03 aimed at simplifying the communication model of approval in UN Regulation No. 115 to prevent the retrofit system manufacturer from knowing in advance the original CO2 emissions of all qualified vehicles.
37. GRPE agreed in principle with the proposal and requested the secretariat to distribute it with an official symbol at the next GRPE session.
GRPE-71-03 (GFV amendment R115 LPG & CNG retrofit)
4. The proposed amendment has been discussed, agreed and it was approved by the GFV. The proposal is made only to simplify the communication model for gaseous fuel vehicle approval. The amendment is designed to avoid having the manufacturer calculate the CO2 figure for each engine family. The new proposal uses a CO2 ratio for all the engine families so the CO2 and power figure are proposed to be removed. This idea does not represent a loss of information but only a simplification for the manufacturers of the retrofit kits. The proposal will be explained and justified at the full GRPE later this week as an informal document.
49. The Chair of the IWG on Gaseous Fuelled Vehicles presented ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRPE/2016/5 aimed at simplifying the communication model of approval for LPG and CNG retrofit systems in Regulation No. 115.
50. GRPE adopted ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRPE/2016/5 and requested the secretariat to submit it to WP.29 and AC.1 for consideration and vote at their June 2016 sessions as draft Supplement 7 to the original version of Regulation No. 115.
