Series of Amendments, Supplements, and Corrigenda

Text adopted by the Working Party on Lighting and Light-Signalling (GRE) to introduce into the Regulation provisions for the use of light-emitting diode (LED) light sources.

Proposal adopted.

Pursuant to the decision to delete the phrase "last column of the table” from paragraph 6.1.6. in Regulation No. 7 following changes to the structure of this table, this proposal would delete the same phrase from paragraph 6.1.2. in Regulation No.6. Originally submitted as Corrigendum 1 to Supplement 19 to the 01 series of amendments to Regulation No. 6, this proposal was adopted by the Forum as Supplement 22.

65. Agenda item 4.11.1, Regulation No. 6, document ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2011/128, amend the title of the document to read:

“Supplement 22 to the 01 series of amendments to Regulation No. 6”.

Proposal to amend the geometric visibility provisions.

Proposal to complete the requirements regarding the use of cap–holder systems in the case of light source modules in a lamp.

Proposal to delete Annex 5. The deletion of chromaticity requirements in the form of coordinates makes Annex 5 superfluous. This proposal would delete Annex 5 and insert its content into paragraph 8 while renumbering the remaining annexes.

Proposal to introduce “interdependent lamps” into Regulation No. 6, taking into account the function of direction indicators as hazard warning signals, and to introduce provisions for direction indicator lamps with variable apparent surfaces.

Paragraph 6.2.2 of UN R6 specifies modes for triggering a failure tell-tale. This proposal would remove a specific reference to filament lamps so that the failure modes apply equally to both filament lamps and LED light sources.

Proposal to

1. insert provisions for the use of incandescent light sources in the case of light source modules and lamps with non-replaceable light sources,
2. update the Conformity of Production requirements (CoP),
3. reference the compliance requirements for installation contained in Regulations Nos. 48, 53, 72 and 86, as warranted,
4. clarify the definition of “type”, with regard to manufacturer, trade names and marks,
5. introduce editorial improvements to the requirements for markings,
6. correct an oversight in Supplement 24 to the 01 series of amendments and align the treatment of categories 1, 1a and 1b with other categories and devices.
7. align the text in the header row of the table in paragraph 6.1 (light emitted by the lamps) with the definitions used in Regulation No. 48 for the installation of “single lamps”, “lamps marked D” and “interdependent lamps”, and
8. removes the requirement to indicate the rated wattage in the marking of lamps equipped with electronic light source control gear and/or non-replaceable light sources and/or light source module(s).

Proposal to reinsert text in paragraph 1.3 concerning differentiation of types according to trade name or mark that was inadvertently omitted from Supplements 27 and 28 to the 01 series of amendments.

Proposal to clarify the provisions for sequential activation of direction indicator lighting, especially concerning the interpretation of the phrase “one continuous line”. The proposal, developed by a special task force, clarifies the type definition and reduces the need for dividing sequential direction indicators into different types. This proposal revises the text to be more technology-neutral, removing specifications on how light sources are activated to focus on the visual performance as sequential lighting. The amendment of sub-paragraph 5.6.(c) of UN R6 clarifies what kind of vertical movement is not allowed in the sequential direction indicators, proposing a new new term “vertical oscillations” instead of the current wording “repeating alternation in the vertical direction”. The meaning is that not more than one change of direction upwards or downwards along the vertical axis is possible. The “continuous signal” is also defined in sub-paragraph 5.6.© of Regulation No. 6. The allowed distance between adjacent or tangential distinct parts is limited 50mm (which differs in this case from UN R48 specifications). Transitional provisions have been included.

Proposal to clarify the requirements for light sources in the lighting and light-signalling Regulations (including UN R6) listed in Annex 4 to Regulation No. 0 on the International Whole Vehicle Type Approval (IWVTA). The document title has been corrected to read “Supplement 28”.

75. For agenda item 4.10.3, document ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2017/74, WP.29 noted that the title of the document shall read: "Proposal for Supplement 28 to the 01 series of amendments to Regulation No. 6 (Direction indicators) ".

Proposal from GRE to introduce transitional provisions for the phasing out of UN R6 in conjunction with the introduction of the new UN Regulation on Light-Signalling Devices (LSD).

112. The Chair of GRE presented amendment proposal contained in ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2018/91/Rev.1 to ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2018/119/Rev.1, under agenda items 4.11.4 to 4.11.32, to amend UN Regulations Nos. 3, 4, 6, 7, 19, 23, 27, 38, 48, 50, 53, 69, 70, 74, 77, 86, 87, 91, 98, 104, 112, 113, 119 and 123. WP.29 noted that these proposals had been the result of intensive work of GRE and its IWG on Simplification of Lighting and Light-Signalling Regulations, as well as that further intensive work by the groups was expected towards finalizing the process of simplification of the relevant UN Regulations. The World Forum recommended their submission to AC.1 for voting, subject to the following modification to ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2018/105 (Proposal for Supplement 20 to the 01 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 53), agenda item 4.11.18:
