Proposal to introduce provisions for the approval of "slightly curved registration plates”.

Proposal to allow the use of changeable “light source modules” instead of non-replaceable light sources (pursuant to the amendments previously agreed for UN R7).

Lamps equipped with non-replaceable light sources, e.g. LED’s, can be operated at a range of voltages. This proposal enables the proper testing and approval of such devices under a single approval number provided that the range of voltage and the rated (maximum) wattage is included in the marking of the lamp.

Proposal to clarify the scope of the regulation specifically to vehicles of categories M, N, O, and T.

Proposal to correct the definition for different types of rear registration plate lamps. This proposal deletes the criteria " the angle of incidence of the light on the surface of the plate" in paragraph 1.3 because this item contradicts the provisions of paragraphs 2 and 7 which state "…. the manufacturer of the illuminating device shall specify one or more or a field of positions in which the device is to be fitted in relation to the space for the registration plate …. ".

Proposal to insert references to Regulations Nos. 37 and 99 and to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Publication 60061, specifying the use of filament lamps and gas-discharge light sources.

Proposal to prohibit the use of light source modules with ECE cap–holder systems.

Proposal as adopted by the Working Party on Lighting and Light-Signalling (GRE) at its sixty-seventh session to introduce provisions for replaceable light-emitting diode (LED) light sources and to correct and harmonize the provisions concerning approval markings.
