Submission from France proposing changes in the definition of the measuring rim for C1, C2 and C3 tyres.

The proposal harmonizes the definitions and marking requirements of UN R30 with the new 02 series of amendments to UN R117 and the latest proposal for amendment to UN R117 related to the snow tyre definitions as proposed by the informal group “snow tyre”. This document supercedes GRRF/2011/13.

Introductory statement to document GRRF-86-04 proposing amendments in order to provide a legal approval framework for extended mobility tyres under UN R30 and their recognition as “emergency mobility equipment” under UN R64.

Proposal to introduce a definition for “Extended Mobility Tyre” based on a new “minimum requirement” performance test procedure with the relevant pictogram to be used to properly distinguish such tyres. This document will be handled by GRB during its 68th session and is referenced under GRVA due to the “conversion” of GRRF.

ETRTO report on the study on the Dimensional Requirements for tyres with radial or run flat structure after having performed the load speed endurance test. ETRTO proposes to amend the UN Regulations No 30, 54 [and 75] by removing the requirements for tyres with radial and run flat structure.

ETRTO proposal for amending tyre marking method by the removal of the use of wording “moulded” in the marking clause as this is only one of the various technical solutions currently available.

Proposal to amend the extended mobility tyre (EMT) symbol following the detection of dimensional inconsistencies within the International Organization for Standardization Working Group (ISO) TC31/SC3/WG19, where the dimension “0,33h” was judged wrong and constituting an unnecessary over constraint and to amend the inflation value to be used for the tyre conditioning when assessing the “flat tyre running mode” of “run flat tyres” and of “extended mobility tyres”.

Proposal to address the definition of the radial structure (as a continuation to ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRBP/2021/9), the definition of snow tyres, the requirements for special use tyres of class C1, the addition of an optional prefix for extra load tyres, a clarification of the description of the load/speed test for run flat tyres and extended mobility tyres (EMT) and editorial corrections.

Proposal for editorial corrections.

Proposal to:

1. Update reference to ISO 4000-1:2024 (published in March 2024)
2. Clarify the structure indication within the tyre size designation for run flat or self-supporting tyres suitable for speeds in excess of 240 km/h (inscription “ZRF”)
3. Clarify the nominal rim diameter.
4. Amend the definition of principal grooves by eliminating the circular reference between this definition and the position of tread wear indicators.
5. Introduce definition of tread depth (used in the requirements for special use and professional off-road tyres)
6. Clarify the calculation of tyre section width
7. Claify the D_max requirement for snow tyres.
