Proposal to amend UN R167 to introduce Supplement 1 to the 01 series of amendments. The Regulation applies to vehicles of categories M2, M3, N2 and N3. Vehicles of category Y and vehicles of category X without manual mode intended to be operated on-board are exempted. Vehicles of category X with manual mode must comply. New definitions added: “Safety Concept” and “Three-dimensional reference system.” Approval marks amended to include Unique Identifier option. Alternative requirements permitted for category X vehicles with manual mode not using driver’s seat, provided equivalent safety demonstrated via safety concept. This document is intended to amend and supersede GRSG/2026/17.

For emergency door opening, intuitive design requires interior release control to unlock doors and unlatch without separate controls. Alternative actions for power loss must be fully intuitive, integrated or in close vicinity, within reach, and properly marked. Exterior door handles need a proper force application area for at least four fingers of an adult hand.
