Proposal to enable application to ADS vehicles:

• Amend the introductory text,
• Delete para. 1.2.4.,
• Amend paras. 2.3., 2.3.2., 2.3.4., 2.5.1.1.3., 2.15., 2.16., 4.4.3., 5.1.1., 5.1.2., 5.1.5., 5.4., 5.6.1., 5.6.1.2.9., 5.7.1., 5.8., 5.8.3., 6.1.4., 6.2., Annex 1 para. 5.6., Annex 4 para. 2.3.1., Annex 7 paras. 2.1.2. and 3.5.,
• Insert new paras. 2.5.1.1.4., 3.2.4., 5.1.1.1.–5.1.1.3., 5.5.3., 5.8.4.–5.8.6.3., 6.2.6.–6.2.9., 12.4.–12.4.7., Annex 1 paras. 5.6.1.–5.6.3., and Annex 3 para. 1.4.,
• Renumber former paras. 12.4. and 12.5.1. as 12.5. and 12.5.1.,
• From entry into force, no refusal of approvals under amended Regulation,
• From 1 September 2027, no obligation to accept prior series approvals first issued after that date,
• Until 1 September 2029, continued acceptance of prior series approvals first issued before that date,
• From 1 September 2029, no obligation to accept prior series approvals,
• Until 1 September 2030, type approvals may be granted for Automated Lane Keeping System vehicles not complying with para. 5.8.

Proposal to amend paragraph 5.6.1.2.9. of UN R79 to require that for RCP systems based on detection of driver position and movement, the deactivation referred to in paragraph 5.6.1.1.3. shall be through a simple and obvious action that will be recognised by the system.

Proposal to amend paragraph 4.4.3. to add a letter “X” preceding the approval number when ACSF of Category A, B1 or C are exempted from technical requirements or when the steering system exhibits ACSF of Category B2, D or E functionality, to require vehicles equipped with ACSF of Category A to fulfil requirements unless equipped with a DCAS complying with UN Regulation No. 171, and to require deactivation of RCP systems based on driver position detection through a simple and obvious action.

Proposal to amend paragraph 4.4.3. to add letter “X” preceding the approval number when ACSF of Category A, B1 or C have been exempted from technical requirements or when the steering system exhibits functionality defined as ACSF of Category B2, D or E; amend paragraph 5.6.1. to add provisions for vehicles equipped with ACSF of Category A unless equipped with a DCAS complying with UN R171; and amend paragraph 5.6.1.2.9. regarding deactivation of RCP systems based on detection of driver position and movement through a simple and obvious action.

Proposal to correct paragraph 5.6.1.2.9. of Supplement 1 to the 04 series of UN R79, Supplement 6 to the 03 series of UN R79, and Supplement 3 to the 02 series of UN R79. For RCP systems based on detection of driver position and movement, the deactivation referred to in paragraph 5.6.1.1.3. shall be through a simple and obvious action that will be recognised by the system.
