Proposal to establish a Task Force on Swappable Batteries (TFSB) under GRPE. The task force will review WP.29 regulations and international standards to identify technical requirements for swappable-battery vehicles, focusing on commercial vehicles. It will define vehicle types, clarify vehicle type approval processes, and develop guidance documents. The task force will coordinate with other working groups including GRSP and GRVA, with deliverables expected by October 2027.

93. The representative of Japan introduced GRPE-94-39. He requested any inputs to this potential activity to be sent to the GRPE leadership. The representative of the US requested to remove the sentence in para 2. of the draft ToRs that said “Also, vehicles have longer life span than that of battery. Service exchange of battery is expected within the middle of vehicle life, especially for commercial vehicles”. He added that the work could still proceed without this sentence. The Chair invited the representative of Japan to remove this sentence from the draft ToRs.

94. The representative of Recharge expressed interest to be part of any potential task force on this topic.
