According to Regulation No. 119, cornering lamps that are equipped with light sources other than filament lamps, are required to meet the relevant photometric requirements after one minute and after 30 minutes of operation. However, under normal traffic conditions, these lamps are operated for no more than 6 minutes. This proposal as approved by the GRE would would require the second test after 10 minutes instead of the current 30 minutes, in accordance with standard SAE J1889.

Proposal to: - insert provisions for the use of incandescent light sources in the case of light source modules and lamps with non-replaceable light sources,
- update the Conformity of Production (CoP) requirements,
- reference the compliance requirements for installation contained in Regulations Nos. 48, 53, 72 and 86,
- clarify the definition of “type”, with regard to manufacturer, trade names and marks,
- introduce editorial improvements to the requirements for markings,
- remove content in paragraph 7.5 that should have been deleted when the text was moved to Annex 3, paragraph 3.3. (via Supplement 4 to the 01 series),
- remove the requirement to indicate the rated wattage in the marking of lamps equipped with electronic light source control gear and/or non-replaceable light sources and/or light source module(s), and
- refine the requirements for lamps equipped with several light sources, including in systems fitted with an operating tell-tale that indicates the failure of any one of these light sources.
This proposal consolidates UN R119 prior to its being “frozen” and superseded by the three new comprehensive regulations (forward lighting, light-signalling, and retro-reflective devices) drafted under the Simplification of Lighting Regulations program.
