Proposal to add a footnote to the Scope stating that nothing in the regulation prevents a Party from prohibiting the application of these lamps, renumber para. 10.5. as 10.6., and amend para. 10.6.1. to require all ADS Marker Lamps installed on the vehicle to be automatically switched ON by the ADS when performing the DDT, to be switched OFF when conditions no longer exist, to always allow independent switching ON and OFF from all other lighting functions, and to not be switched ON when an ADS performs the DDT in a country that does not allow the use of ADS Marker Lamps.
The agenda includes discussion of ADS marker lamps including a draft proposal for a hybrid regulation with remarks from the chairman on document AVSR-31-03/Rev.2 and GTB input consolidated in AVSR-31-02, miscellaneous items, and next steps including a working plan for future activities.
The 9th session of the Informal Working Group on AI convened 3–4 June 2026 in London. Experts adopted the agenda and reviewed the consolidated draft reference document AI-09-06, which was substantially revised through two iterations (AI-09-06/Rev.1 and AI-09-06/Rev.2) before final submission to WP.29 as AI-09-06/Rev.3. Key modifications included limiting use cases in section 3 to driving functions, removing section 6 and the “other use cases” section, and incorporating lifecycle risks in sections 4 and 5. The IWG received a presentation on ISO/PAS 8800/2024 AI safety standards. A 1-year mandate extension was requested to submit a formal document for the June 2027 WP.29 session.
Workshop on frontal impact scheduled for Tokyo, Japan, 4-6 November 2026 will assess robustness, defined as the vehicle’s ability to protect occupants across variations in body height, weight, shape, and seating position in real-world collisions by maintaining structural integrity and effective safety systems. The workshop will explore conceptual ideas for procedures to assess robustness by complementing current specific requirements based on ATDs using a more holistic approach. Sessions will address issues requiring solution and regulatory solutions, including review of relevant regulations, clarification of roles of ATDs and HBMs, and conceptual ideas of future regulatory upgrades addressing brain injury, soft tissue neck injury, lower leg injury, thorax injury, submarining, abdominal loading injury, and lower severity collisions.
The EqOP-TF4 held its 5th meeting on June 25, 2026, with 41 participants. The agenda was adopted with one item removed, and previous minutes were approved. The chair presented an updated priority table assessing injury relevance, regulatory gaps, test capabilities, and potential safety benefits for prioritizing future frontal impact safety requirements. Japan will report on submarining and female injury patterns. A workshop is scheduled for November 4–6, 2026, in Japan. The next meeting is September 7, 2026.

A holistic assessment tool to evaluate candidate topics, identify regulatory gaps, and define priorities for future frontal impact requirements. Draft table template includes topics such as soft tissue neck, chest, abdomen, foot and ankle, hand and arm, submarining, rear seat row, driver seat, front passenger seat, low speed, robustness, multi-scenario testing, and virtual testing with human body model. The framework considers equity issues, relevance, current UN Regulations, available test and criteria, and identifies volunteers to prepare topics.
