UN R160: Draft proposal for a 03 series of amendments (EDR Step 2)

Proposal to amend UN R160 definitions and event recording requirements:

  • Amend definitions 2.8., 2.10., and 2.11. regarding Automatically Commanded Steering Function categories A, B1, and C,
  • Amend definition 2.18. on “End of event time”,
  • Amend definition 2.20. on “Engine throttle, percent full”,
  • Delete definition 2.25.,
  • Amend definition 2.35. on “Non-volatile memory”,
  • Amend definition 2.45. on “Service brake status”,

  • Amend definition 2.65. on “VRU secondary safety system”,
  • Insert new definitions 2.71. through 2.83.,

  • Amend para. 5.3.1. to establish trigger conditions for planar, VRU, and rollover events separately from AEBS events with provision for events occurring within 300 ms overlap,

  • Add new para. 5.3.1.2. for AEBS emergency braking demand trigger,

  • Amend Annex 4 Table 1 data elements for recording intervals, sample rates, ranges, and new elements including Pre-Event Synchronization Timer, Trigger activated, ACPE, ADDW, DDAW, blind spot monitoring, turn signal, DCAS, emergency stop signal, and TTC.

Subgroup on EDR: Notes from the 47th (June 2026) session
Reference Number: SG-EDR-48-05

Document SG-EDR-47-02 and SG-EDR-47-03 were discussed. The group agreed to include definitions 2.8, 2.10, 2.11, and 2.20 with edits. Proposed definitions will be circulated by June 15 for review with comments due June 26. For data elements, disagreements on frequency rates between contracting parties and industry remain in square brackets. EDR for ADS will be addressed under GRVA and the ADS IWG. An October in-person meeting in Berlin is planned, pending WP.29 direction on integrating DSSAD into the ADS IWG.

Electric Vehicles and the Environment: Agenda for the 99th (September 2026) session

The 99th session of the Electric Vehicles and the Environment Informal Working Group is scheduled for September 8-9, 2026, in a hybrid format with sessions at China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd. (CATARC) in Tianjin, China. Proposal to amend Annex 4 Table 1 to modify the Vulnerable road user secondary safety system warning indicator status data element to record interval -1.1 to 0 sec, modify the VRU Accident emergency call system status data element to recording interval 0-300 ms or 0 to end of event time plus 30 ms whichever is shorter, add Advanced driver distraction warning (ADDW) status as mandatory with On and Off values for Planar, VRU, Rollover, and AEBS events, add ADDW time since warning issued as mandatory with 0 to 240 sec range and +/-1% accuracy at 1 sec resolution, add Driver control assistance system driver monitoring system time since disengagement warning issued as mandatory with 0 to 1000 sec or 0 to 240 sec range and +/-1% accuracy at 1 sec resolution, add Driver drowsiness and attention warning (DDAW) status as mandatory with On and Off values for Planar, VRU, Rollover, and AEBS events, and add DDAW time since warning issued as mandatory with 0 to 60 min or 0 to 600 seconds range, +/-1% accuracy, and 1 min or 1 sec resolution.

RD-ASEP informal group status report to GRBP

The IWG RD-ASEP Informal Group is developing a mandatory test procedure for UN R51 to assess vehicle noise emission compliance under conditions other than Annex 3, ensuring no defeat device schemes exist. The Editing Task Force created a consolidated R51.04 draft incorporating Supplements up to Supplement 11, with mandatory random RD-ASEP testing for approval and revised control ranges. R51.04 RD-ASEP expands vehicle speed range to 1-100 km/h, adds vehicle performance criteria, implements random test points, and requires testing for approval. Working document submission is expected September 2027, with expected adoption February 2028.

UN R51: Proposal for a 04 series of amendments

Proposal to amend UN R51 in the 04 series of amendments based on GRBP-84-07, adding definitions and specifications for Real Driving Additional Sound Emission Provisions applying to vehicles of categories M1 and N1, modifying sound measurement methods and test procedures including indoor testing provisions, establishing a sound expectation model for RD-ASEP compliance evaluation, introducing provisions for vehicles equipped with an Automated Driving System, and updating Annexes 3 through 10 and associated appendices with revised test conditions, gear selection flowcharts, temperature and test-track corrections, tyre rolling sound measurement procedures, compressed air noise assessment, and conformity of production checks. No Contracting Party shall refuse to grant type-approvals under the 04 series of amendments from its entry into force until [TBD date], after which approvals under the preceding 03 series may no longer be accepted.

UN R172: Proposal for a Supplement 1 to the 01 series of amendments

Proposal to amend para. 1.1. to clarify that retreaded pneumatic tyres of Classes C1, C2 and C3 are subject to snow performance requirements and C2 and C3 tyres to traction tyre classification, and insert new para. 1.2. to establish that Contracting Parties shall issue or accept approvals to snow performance of retreaded tyres of Classes C1, C2 and C3 and/or the classification as traction tyres for retreaded tyres of Classes C2 and C3.
