Proposal of new UN Regulation on Vulnerable Road Users in Front and Side Close Proximity

Proposal from GRSG to establish a new UN Regulation providing provisions for devices to enhance the driver’s vision or awareness of vulnerable road users at the front and sides of the vehicle before the vehicle starts from standstill. Some requirements of this Regulation may be satisfied by devices complying with UN R46 on indirect vision.

Proposal to align the impact safety requirements for FLVCS and Detection system for consistency with CMS requirements of UN R46, to add a direct vision case figure for ambinocular vision to avoid misinterpretation of the indirect vision case figure, to update the references to the three-dimensional H-point (3-D “H”-point) measurement and calibration procedure (per the update and transfer of device specifications from the Consolidated Resolution on the Construction of Vehicles (R.E.3) to Mutual Resolution No. 1 (M.R.1)), to exempt devices approved to UN R26 or R61, and to otherwise clarify and correct the text.
