The representative of Australia introduced the status report of the Informal Working Group regarding the safety of Children Left in Vehicles (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2025/80) and informed AC.3 that the research phase (phase 1) was now completed, with the IWG having reached consensus on the six questions raised in the terms of reference. The IWG was now proceeding to phase 2 of the work and requested AC.3 authorisation to develop a new UN GTR for category 1 vehicles (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2025/81). Although AC.3 received this request positively, following a request from the United States, it decided to postpone this decision to the next session. The representative of the Republic of Korea indicated that the group would nonetheless continue their work in the meantime. She also informed AC.3 that the six countries from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), namely, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, had recently joined the work of the IWG, to provide their contributions, enlarging even more the global scope of this work.
