42. The representative of United States of America, on behalf of the Chair of GRSP, reported on the results of the 77th session of GRSP (for details, see the report in ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSP/77).
43. He informed WP.29 that GRSP had adopted amendments and corrigenda to UN Regulations Nos. 16, 100, 127, 129, 134, 145, 173 and 174, which will be presented to WP.29 and AC.1 for consideration and voting on their November sessions. These amendments included a new series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 34.
44. He also reported that GRSP had agreed to change the short title of UN Regulation No. 173 to “Installation of occupant restraint systems” and had requested the secretariat to start using it where appropriate.
45. He mentioned that Netherlands (Kingdom of the) had introduced the idea of initiating work on a new revision of the regulations for child restraint systems (“ISOFIX 3.0”), potentially under the framework of the 1998 Agreement, which was well received by GRSP and asked WP.29 for guidance on the issue. The representative of CLEPA expressed support for the initiative and highlighted the current problems caused by multiple incompatible standards in terms of costs and in terms of handicaps to advocacy for child safety in many low- and middle-income countries. The representative of OICA questioned the benefits of such activities given the already quite highly harmonized situation. WP.29 recommended to add the topic to the November session of AC.3 under agenda item 18 and asked Netherlands (Kingdom of the) to make a short presentation.
46. Finally, the representative of United States of America recounted that GRSP experts had been invited to attend a meeting on Child Passenger Safety on Powered Two-Wheelers (PTW), organized by the UN Road Safety Fund on 19 May 2025. The representative of the Fund elaborated on the concerns regarding the safety of child passengers in PTWs in low- and middle-income countries, where the practice was widespread and unavoidable. She briefed WP.29 on the result of this first meeting and invited interested parties to the second meeting, scheduled to be held in a hybrid format on 14 July 2025.
47. WP.29 recalled the previous interest in AC.3 in developing a new UN GTR on helmets and encouraged contracting parties to submit relevant standards to the Compendium of Candidates. The representative of IMMA noted that it represented motorcycle manufacturers and not helmet manufacturers but was nonetheless interested in the initiative. WP.29 recommended to add the topic to the November session of AC.3 under agenda item 18.
