31. The Chair of GRPE (Sweden) reported on the results achieved by GRPE at its ninety-second session (for more details see the report of the session ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRPE/92).

GRPE agreed to create a new IWG on Electric Vehicle / Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles (EV/HFCV) retrofit systems, under the leadership of France and Spain, and expected to finalize its Terms of Reference in October 2025 at the next session of GRPE . GRPE also approved revised terms of references and rules of procedure for the IWG on PMP until October 2027 and IWG on A-LCA until December 2025. WP.29 endorsed both extensions of the mandates.

33. GRPE sought WP.29 guidance on activities for developing a harmonized regulatory framework for swappable batteries. The representative of Japan echoed this request. The representative of France suggested to use the recent example of the EV retrofit activities when a group of interested parties had first drafted a proposal on a potential way forward and then presented it to WP.29. The representative of Japan agreed to consult with appropriate GRs, GRPE and GRSP among others, with the support of the secretariat, with the aim to prepare a proposal for consideration at the November 2025 session of WP.29. WP.29 supported this approach.

34. GRPE also sought guidance on how to manage the challenging timeline on the fitness of WP.29 instruments to automated/autonomous vehicles. The Chair suggested to re-assess the situation at the forthcoming session of WP.29, recalling that all GRs are subject to a similar tight and demanding timeline.
