The Working Party on Pollution and Energy (GRPE) may agree to consider a brief oral report by the secretariat about the highlights of the March 2020 session of WP.29 on issues related to GRPE.

3. (a) UN Regulations Nos. 68, 83, 101 and 103

GRPE may wish to consider a proposal from the expert of the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) to amend the 05, 06 and 07 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 83. The proposal aims at permitting the usage of the calibration and maintenance intervals from UN GTR No. 15 for test facilities capable of testing to that UN GTR.

UNR WLTP will have 3 Levels. There are two regional Levels (contained within Level 1), and one harmonised Level (Level 2). The regional Levels reflect the current (at the time of adoption) emissions legislation in the EU (Level 1A) and in Japan (Level 1B). The harmonised level is the only level which will be accepted as part of an approval to Regulation 0 (International Whole Vehicle Type Approval – IWVTA)

GRPE-81-10 | GTR 15: Proposal to amend sub23 nm particle provisions of the draft Amendment 6 Proposal from the Particle Measurement Programme informal group to:<ul><li>Modify the existing solid PN measurement methodology having a 50% cut-off size at 23 nm (SPN23) in order to allow the use of catalyzed volatile particle remover (VPR) and introduce minor improvements, and</li><li>Include as a second option a solid PN measurement methodology with a 65% cut-off size at 10 nm (SPN10).</li></ul>

GRPE may wish to receive a status report on the activities of harmonized provision for heavy duty vehicles fuel economy, if any.

5. UN Regulations Nos. 24, 85, 115, 133 and 143

GRPE may wish to consider a proposal prepared by the expert from OICA to amend UN Regulation No. 85. The proposal aims at permitting the usage of the gaseous reference fuels described in UN Regulation No. 83 in order to reduce potential testing complexity.

GRPE may wish to consider a proposal prepared by the expert from Liquid Gas Europe to amend UN Regulation No. 115. The proposal proposes to clarify in UN Regulation No.115 provisions for hybrid electric vehicles.

GRPE-81-10 | GTR 15: Proposal to amend sub23 nm particle provisions of the draft Amendment 6 Proposal from the Particle Measurement Programme informal group to:<ul><li>Modify the existing solid PN measurement methodology having a 50% cut-off size at 23 nm (SPN23) in order to allow the use of catalyzed volatile particle remover (VPR) and introduce minor improvements, and</li><li>Include as a second option a solid PN measurement methodology with a 65% cut-off size at 10 nm (SPN10).</li></ul>
GRPE-81-12 | Brake emissions protocol status update and proposal The first part of the PMP Brake Protocol for measuring brake particle emissions and addresses items using a new WLTP-Brake Cycle in conjunction with an inertia dynamometer test. The PMP Brake protocol will include three sections aiming to provide a comprehensive protocol for testing facilities:<ul><li>Inertia Dynamometer Protocol to Measure and Characterise Brake Emissions Using the WLTP-Brake Cycle;</li><li>Part 2: Minimum Requirements and Guidelines for Sampling and Measurement of Brake Emissions for Particle Number and Particle Mass;</li><li>Part 3: Reporting Test Results from Brake Emissions Testing.</li></ul>
