MR3: Proposal for a Revision 2 on Vehicle Interior Air Quality (VIAQ)

Proposal to establish harmonized test procedures for measuring emissions from interior materials, emissions entering vehicle cabins with exhaust gases, and outside air pollutants entering vehicle cabins. The Mutual Resolution applies to category 1-1 vehicles and specifies test modes (ambient, parking, and driving for interior materials; idle and constant speed for exhaust gases; real driving on urban and expressway routes for outside air pollutants), measurement methods for substances including volatile organic compounds, carbonyl compounds, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, particulate matter, and carbon dioxide, vehicle conditioning requirements, test apparatus specifications, quality assurance procedures, and data reporting formats. No emission limit values are set, allowing Contracting Parties to establish limits according to their circumstances.

77. The representative from the Russian Federation, former Chair of IWG on Vehicles Interior Air Quality (VIAQ), introduced ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRPE/2026/27 and GRPE-94-10.

78. GRPE adopted ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRPE/2026/27 and requested the secretariat to submit it to WP.29 for consideration and vote at their November 2026 session as draft new Revision 2 to M.R.3.

79. The Chair congratulated the group for their work and for the adoption of the new revision that brought an end to the activities of the IWG on VIAQ for the time being.
