UN R137: Proposal for a 03 series of amendments

Proposal to

  • amend para. 2.4. to 2.4.7. to define “Vehicle type” by reference to essential respects including REESS locations and compressed hydrogen storage system configuration,
  • Amend para. 2.5.2. to define “Passenger compartment for electric safety and/or hydrogen safety assessment” to include electrical protection barriers and enclosures,
  • Add new paras. 2.41. to 2.45. to define compressed hydrogen storage system, container, container attachments, hydrogen-fuelled vehicle, and shut-off valve,
  • Amend para. 5.2., renumber former para. 5.2.7. as para. 5.2.6.1., and insert new paras. 5.2.7. to 5.2.7.3. to establish hydrogen leakage rate and gas concentration requirements for compressed hydrogen-fuelled vehicles post-crash with a shut-off valve closure requirement within five seconds,
  • Amend paras. 12.1. to 12.5. to provide that as from 1 September 2027 Contracting Parties shall not be obliged to accept type-approvals according to the preceding series first issued after that date,
  • Insert new para. 12.6. regarding Contracting Parties applying the Regulation after entry into force of the most recent series,
  • Amend Annex 2 to update approval marks to reference the 03 series,
  • Insert new Annex 10 establishing test conditions and procedures for post-crash hydrogen fuel system integrity assessment,
  • Amend all references to the Consolidated Resolution on the Construction of Vehicles (R.E.3.) to include document ECE/TRANS/WP.29/78/Rev.7 and URL, based on ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSP/2023/20 as amended by annex X to GRSP/73.
