Mutual Resolution No. 3: Vehicle Interior Air Quality (VIAQ)

Korea raised this issue in June 2013 in response to reports of vehicle occupant headaches, dizziness, and other symptoms thought to be linked with evaporative emissions originating with the chemical compounds used in the construction of vehicle interiors. The particular concern is that the use of certain volatile organic compounds and other chemicals in adhesives and interior plastics may be generating noxious fumes, especially in hot conditions.

In November 2014, the World Forum accepted a proposal from Korea Korea to establish an informal group of experts to consider this issue and if warranted, prepare guidelines and recommendations for inclusion in the Consolidated Resolution for the Construction of Vehicles (1958 Agreement) and Special Resolution No. 1 (1998 Global Agreement).
