81. The representative of China presented (GRVA-24-21) an introduction to the progress of pilot program for the market access of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles (ICVs) in China. He recalled that China was actively exploring road testing and demonstration applications since 2018 that the rollout pilot program for automated driving was revised several times since then. He detailed the core requirements, processes and principles for the access pilot program, he reported that nine consortia were admitted in the program and that two vehicle types achieved type-approval. He provided insights into the next steps, focused on regulations and standards.

82. He clarified, in response to a question from the expert from Japan on end-to-end AI, that China’s approach was technology neutral.
