Based on AVSR-31-03/Rev.2 and GTBWGSL 7201, this work-in-progress draft proposes a new UN Regulation for ADS Marker Lamps. The proposal applies to vehicles of categories M, N, L6, L7, and O. It establishes approval procedures for ADS Marker Lamp components and vehicle installation requirements if fitted on a vehicle (the draft includes a tentative statement that nothing prevents prohibiting the use of ADS marker lamps). Key provisions include luminous intensity requirements with day-time and night-time levels for front (AMF), rear (AMR), and side (AMS) lamps; blue-green colour specifications; approval marking and labelling requirements; geometric visibility angles; electrical connections ensuring automatic activation when automated driving systems perform the dynamic driving task; and conformity of production procedures. Outstanding discussion items requiring guidance include vehicle category applicability, day-time and night-time condition definitions, reciprocal incorporation with direction indicators, alternative roof-mounted lamp options, and specification details for side marker lamp categories. Testing procedures for light sources and automatic switching conditions between day-time and night-time modes are included in annexes.
Draft agenda for the 34th meeting of the GRE Taskforce on Autonomous Vehicle Signalling Requirements, to be held via WebEx on 22 September 2026. The meeting will discussion of ADS marker lamps including a draft proposal hybrid regulation after an editorial meeting, miscellaneous items, and next steps including a working plan for future activities.
Proposal to add Observer Rating of Drowsiness (ORD) as a primary drowsiness assessment method alongside the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS) for the Driver Drowsiness Alarm Warning (DDAW) system. The proposal modifies warning thresholds to reference ORD level [D4], updates validation testing requirements in Annex 4 to include ORD assessment procedures with specified assessor training and concordance rate standards, and establishes measurement intervals of 5 minutes or less. Japan is conducting a driving simulator study to validate appropriate ORD warning thresholds for submission after the October 2026 session.
Proposal to insert a definition of Observer Rating of Drowsiness (ORD) as a methodology for assessing driver drowsiness, amend paragraphs 5.5.2. and 5.5.2.1. to establish drowsiness warning thresholds using both the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale and ORD, amend Annex 4 to include ORD validation requirements including assessor training with minimum concordance rate of 0.70, rating procedures with at least 2 assessors, measurement intervals of 5 minutes or less, video quality standards, and calculation of final ratings as averages of assessors’ ratings, amend paragraph 6.3.1. to permit alternative measurement methods including sleep video analysis by at least 3 sleep experts, amend paragraph 6.3.2. to require evidence of validity and equivalence to KSS levels, delete former paragraph 6.3.2.1., amend paragraph 6.4.1. to permit complementary measurements, and amend paragraphs 7, 7.1., 7.2., and 8.1. to establish equivalence requirements between alternative measurements and KSS or ORD thresholds.
The CLIV IWG 20th session reviewed its draft proposal for a bus and coach UN Regulation submitted to GRSP in December 2026, retaining operational isolation terminology with editorial corrections, defining scope as M2 and M3 class B and III vehicles designed for carrying children, and adopting a journey definition covering engine or motor operation until 15 minutes after the vehicle master control switch is turned off. The IWG adopted a 1.5 ± 0.5 Hz repetition rate for warning signals and deferred light-vehicle UN Regulation drafting to a September face-to-face meeting in Paris.
Proposal to establish requirements for in-direct plus or direct sensing systems to detect children left unattended in M1 and N1 vehicles under 3,500 kg. Systems shall detect Child Occupants Left Inside (CLIV) events for rear seating positions accommodating child restraint systems and issue audible or audible and visual warnings at least 60 dB(A) within 15–30 seconds of locking all doors, lasting at least 10 seconds and repeating every 90 seconds for at least 20 minutes unless cancelled. The default system setting shall be ON, with deactivation available temporarily for single journeys or long-term for maximum 30 days. Testing shall use CLIV surrogates aged 0, 3, and 6 years per ISO 26315, covering multiple test scenarios including warning delay, cancellation, and temporary deactivation.
Proposal to establish terms of reference and rules of procedure for the Task Force on Exchange of Scenario-Relevant Information. The TF on ESRI shall propose procedures to facilitate sharing of information under WP.29 that can support the use of traffic scenarios for assessment of vehicles, equipment, and parts performing the dynamic driving task, and shall develop proposals concerning information structuring, information exchange management, public availability of information, and application recommendations. The TF on ESRI shall not propose scenarios for use in regulations, propose a regulatory database or catalogue, propose requirements for scenario use in regulations, or develop regulatory provisions. The TF on ESRI shall aim to develop procedures facilitating continuous improvement of vehicle safety, exchanges among Contracting Parties, application of scenario-related provisions, and efficient procedures for information exchange. The TF on ESRI shall present outcomes within two years from approval of these terms of reference by GRVA. The TF on ESRI is a subsidiary body of GRVA, open to all WP.29 participants, managed by a chairperson or co-chairs from Contracting Parties. Meetings shall be held in public, either in person or online. Decisions shall be reached by consensus.
Terms of Reference and Rules of Procedure for a second phase of work on GTR 26 and UN R185 (ADS2). The IWG shall keep under review the suitability of existing provisions in the Global Technical Regulation and UN Regulation on ADS, consider proposals for new provisions, submit draft regulatory proposals amending both regulations, maintain the Guidance and Interpretation Document, assume responsibility for Data Storage Systems for Automated Driving matters, and deliver draft proposals no later than the January 2029 session of GRVA. The IWG shall report to GRVA, be managed by six Co-Chairs from different regions, operate in English, reach decisions by consensus, and ensure regulatory proposals are performance based and technology neutral.
